One of the most important places in Porto to which the city owes its international fame is the University of Porto.

Every year thousands of international students, as well as locals, choose to study here due to its prestige and recognition. The public institution was founded in 1911, although its origins date back to the 18th century. According to the latest data, the University of Porto is the largest Portuguese university, both in number of students, its departments and the number of courses it offers. Thanks to this University, a young and student-focused atmosphere has been created in Porto over the years, since many international students travel to this city to do their study abroad. The headquarters of the University is located in the Praça de Gomes Teixeira square and is surrounded by some of the city’s most important monuments, such as the Torre dos Clerigos and the Igreja do Carmo. Next to the University you can find a large park known as the Jardim da Cordoaria. Nearby there are several cafes and restaurants where you can stop to eat or have a snack before continuing on with your visit. Located not far from this point of interest is a Saba car park, where you can comfortably leave your car. This parking lot is available 24 hours a day and has modern facilities with Wi-Fi included.
